Join the world's oldest fraternity.

Freemasonry is the world’s oldest, largest, and most widely-known fraternal organization.

For three centuries, it has beckoned men of good character to its ranks. It has no regard for differences in race, color, creed, religion, or station in life. Using traditions and implements of antiquity, it seeks to inspire its members to live by the tenets of brotherly love, relief, and truth.

How does it work?

If you have an interest in joining Freemasonry, all you need to do is ask.

  • Contact us to schedule a time for you to come visit the Lodge. We'll introduce you to the guys, give you a tour around the Portland Masonic Temple, and you can join us for a meal.
  • If you are truly interested in applying, you will be asked to fill out a petition for membership.
  • Once your petition is filled out, you'll need two sponsors to sign it. If you don't already know a Mason, you will meet plenty of us when you visit who you can ask to sign once you get to know them.
  • Your petition will be read before the Lodge, after which you will be contacted to meet with a committee of brothers to get to know you. This is a casual, private meeting to learn more about you and ensure that you meet the criteria for membership.
  • The committee reports back to the Lodge and your petition is voted on. If accepted, the Secretary will contact you to inform you that your petition was accepted and to schedule your first degree.

Where do I go from here?

If you are interested, or have any questions about the process of becoming a Mason - just ask us!
